Election Information

The County Clerk is the election authority for the county and its political subdivisions, and is responsible for conducting all public elections. We are governed by the Revised Statues of Missouri Chapter 115 Election Laws. Regular elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April, August and November. Bond elections may be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in February but no other issue shall be included on the ballot for such election. Two notices of the polling locations and sample ballots are published in the local newspaper two weeks prior to each election. We accept Candidate Filing for county offices beginning the last Tuesday in February. Absentee voting begins on the sixth Tuesday prior to each election. Candidate Filing Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES FILING FOR OFFICE IN STONE COUNTY

 

Prospective candidates must bring the following items to the County Clerk's office in Galena, Missouri when filing:

valid photo ID

completed, notarized Form 5120

$100 check made payable to the party of your choosing's Central Committee

Each candidate for Public Administrator, Collector and Treasurer will need to provide a signed affidavit from a surety company indicating that the candidate meets the bond requirements for the office.

 

In 2024, Candidate Filing for the August Primary Election begins February 27th in the County Clerk's office at 8am. Ballot order for first day filers will be determined by a lottery drawing. Filing will continue in the County Clerk's office Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. The 2024 closing date for filing is March 26th at 5pm.
